BECKLEY – A female patient has sued a hospital and doctor, alleging an excessive dose of Percocet just prior to discharge.
Helen M. Huzoski and Muriel June Wilson, as power attorney for Huzoski, filed a lawsuit April 3 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Raleigh General Hospital, alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, on Dec. 10, 2012, Huzoski was admitted to Raleigh General to treat a right shoulder fracture, for which she underwent surgery and on Dec. 13, 2012, she was prepared for prepared for discharge. After the attending physician approved her discharge, a nurse of the hospital administered "an excessive amount of Percocent" to Huzoski, the suit states.
As a result, the lawsuit states, Huzoski "suffered an altered level of consciousness" and she suffered injury and couldn't be discharged to her home. This treatment and/or lack of treatment caused the plaintiff "to endure pain, suffering, mental anguish, distress, loss of enjoyment of life, medical bills, costs of daily living and to suffer permanent injury," the complaint states
The plaintiffs seek unspecified damages. They are are represented by attorney William M. Tiano of Tiano O'Dell in Charleston.
