Woman blames hospital for parking lot injury

Hampshiremhospital

ROMNEY – A Romney woman has sued a local hospital over injuries she allegedly suffered in a fall in the hospital parking lot.

Mary Dean filed a lawsuit April 3 in Hampshire Circuit Court against Hampshire Memorial Hospital Inc.

According to the complaint, on April 4, 2013, Dean was a patient of the hospital, at 363 Sunrise Blvd., Winchester, and was dazed and drowsy after seeking treatment for a seizure and allowed to leave the building "without an escort." The suit says "while trying to step down off the sidewalk to enter her vehicle became disoriented and fell in the parking lot."

The lawsuit states she injured her ankle, leg and hip in the fall.

The complaint cites the hospital for negligence and carelessness, including having a parking lot that is "not properly designed, maintained and/or secured and constituted an unsafe condition to patients requiring ambulatory assistance and consequently presented a high degree of risk and strong probability of serious injury."

Dean seeks unspecified damages to compensate for her injuries and damages. She is represented by attorney Lawrence E. Sherman Jr. of Romney.
