Hospital executives to open WVU business course for health-care professionals

MORGANTOWN -- Bruce McClymonds, CEO of West Virginia University Hospitals Inc., and Gary Murdock, vice president for strategic program development, will launch the new Health Care MBA Essentials Program on March 31 with an opening session on strategic leadership.

The WVU College of Business and Economics designed the program after conducting an analysis of the regional health care community as it relates to their business education needs and leadership training interests.

The analysis identified a growing need for management and business education for those responsible for decision-making in hospitals, practices and clinics.

This month-long, 12-topic program, which focuses on business aspects of health-care professions, is attracting a diverse audience of physicians, nurse managers, pharmacists and health care administrators from Morgantown and surrounding areas. Sessions will be held in Morgantown on Friday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to accommodate working professionals.

"The curriculum is practical and application-based. It is designed to provide tools to analyze information and data, assimilate it quickly, formulate a strategy and move forward- often times, where ambiguity and risk exist," said Maria M. Yester, director, WVU Center for Executive Education.

The program, which will conclude April 29, will allow participants to earn physician CME credits and three WVU College Credits simultaneously. A group incentive is available for three or more participants from the same organization. For enrollment information, visit www.ExecEd.wvu.edu or call 304-293-7926.
