Charleston lawyer, alumnus, joins WVU business school advisory board

MORGANTOWN -- Michael J. Basile, a Charleston lawyer and West Virginia Vision Shared co-chair, recently was named to the West Virginia University College of Business and Economics 30-member board of advisors.

A 1987 finance graduate of WVU, Basile is a managing member at Spilman Thomas and Battle PLLC. He is also vice chair of the West Virginia Council for Community and Economic Development and the Charleston Inter-Regional Chamber of Commerce.

"Mr. Basile is well known across the state and his experience, knowledge of business, and focus on the big picture and progress in West Virginia will be an asset to our faculty and students and in building the future of our college," said Dean Stephen Sears, who has been with WVU for nearly a year after coming to the state from Texas Tech University.

Basile serves on the board of directors for Energy Village , Charleston Area Alliance and the Fifth Third Bank/Ohio Valley Affiliate.

From 1994 to 1997, he served as assistant general counsel, general counsel and deputy chief of staff to Gov. Gaston Caperton, and general counsel to the West Virginia Development Office from 1993-94. He was assistant and senior assistant attorney general from 1991 to 1993.

Basile earned a law degree from the University of Pittsburgh and attended Governor's School at Duke University 's Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy.
