MORGANTOWN -- West Virginia University Mining Extension still has openings in a new miner training class that begins Monday, June 12, at its training facility at Dolls Run near Morgantown .
The classes prepare participants for a job in underground or surface mining. The curriculum was developed in conjunction with coal companies to meet specific industry needs.
A newly acquired mine training simulator will enable instructors to provide hands-on training in the operation of equipment used in surface and underground mining.
The Dolls Run facility is part of the Academy of Mine Training and Energy Technologies. Major partners include the WVU Department of Mining Extension, Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College , and the West Virginia Coal Association. The facility was donated to WVU by CONSOL Energy.
The eight week class runs Monday through Friday, 5-9 p.m. The fee for the course is $200.
