PERSONNEL FILE: Potter nominated to U.S. attorney post

CLARKSBURG -- Assistant U.S. Attorney Sharon L. Potter has been nominated to serve as U.S. attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia.

If the U.S. Senate confirms President Bush's nomination, Potter, 47, would become the Northern District's first female U.S. attorney.

Potter has been an assistant U.S. Attorney since 1992 and works out of the Wheeling office.

Potter is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and California Western School of Law. She worked for the state Public Service Commission from 1985 to 1987 and was an assistant district attorney in Centre County, Pa., from 1987 to 1989. She also was an associate with the Martin & Seibert law firm in Martinsburg from 1990 to 1992 and served as an assistant prosecutor in Berkeley County.
