LEWISBURG - The quest to stop an elementary school in Greenbrier County from closing has been dismissed at the request of lawyers from both sides of the lawsuit.
The suit was requesting the Greenbrier County Board of Education not close Williamsburg Elementary because closing the school would mean the children would have a long and dangerous commute.
Circuit Judge Jim Rowe dismissed the original suit without prejudice after lawyers from both sides asked that it be dismissed because the West Virginia school board was not listed as a defendant, and the state board is supposed to make the final decision on whether a county board can close a school or not.
The closure of the 53-student school is expected to save the board more than $446,442.
