CHARLESTON -- Low approval ratings have steered some Republicans away from campaign help from President Bush. But Shelley Moore Capito isn't one of them.

Capito, West Virginia's only Republican in Washington, raised about $500,000 Wednesday at a private fundraiser attended by Bush. GOP officials said about 275 people attended the event at the South Hills home of former Charleston Treasurer Drew Payne and his wife, Mary.

Seeking a fourth two-year term, Capito is being challenged by Democrat Mike Callaghan.

Wednesday's event was an invitation-only affair that costs each couple $4,200, the maximum allowed campaign contribution.
