MORGANTOWN -- Melinda Walls has been named director of the West Virginia University Entrepreneurship Center in the College of Business and Economics.
The Entrepreneurship Center was established in 2002 to contribute to the economic development of West Virginia and to the teaching, research, and service missions at WVU. The center also promotes entrepreneurial thinking among students and supports area entrepreneurs.
Walls is a graduate of the WVU College of Human Resources and Education and the College of Law. She has served as an advisor, instructor and a visiting assistant professor in the Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Science.
In 2003, she was appointed associate director of the Entrepreneurship Center, a position she held until 2006 when she was appointed interim director.
Under her leadership, the center has developed an academic minor in entrepreneurship. In addition, it has expanded its student business plan competition to enable any full time student attending a West Virginia college or university to participate. Last year's competition awarded more than $30,000 in cash and prizes to West Virginia student businesses.
