Plans well under way for Inauguration Week activities at WVU Oct. 14-21

MORGANTOWN -- "Coming Home" is the theme of a week-long celebration Oct. 14-21 at West Virginia University that will culminate with the inauguration of Mike Garrison as the University's 22nd president.

The ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, in historic Woodburn Circle on the Downtown Campus, with many public events planned for the days leading up to and after the ceremony. Inaugural activities will coincide with WVU Homecoming and Diversity Week.

For WVU President Mike Garrison, the path home will be complete Oct. 19.

"Twenty years ago, I began a relationship with WVU that has changed my life in ways I never expected," he said. "I discovered that I enjoyed the English language, the study of government and law, and the many rewards of being a Mountaineer. I met my wife Heather here. Together, we hold five degrees from the University. The path that began at WVU took me far – to study in England, an internship at the U.S. Capitol, and to law practice and state government in Charleston. But all the while, Morgantown was calling me home. On Oct. 19, the path home will be complete."

Each day of Inauguration Week will have its own theme tied to WVU's mission of teaching, research and public service, Case said.
