CHARLESTON - First Lady Gayle Manchin announced last week that the 2007 Governor's Mansion Christmas Ornament, the third in a series of four ornaments, is now available for purchase at Tamarack.
Each limited edition ornament –- 500 made each year -– illustrates a different perspective of the mansion and is designed and carved by New Martinsville juried artisan, Doug Coleman. Each glass piece is individually hand cut and sandblasted in Coleman's studio, making each one a one-of-a-kind decoration.
This year's ornament features a view of the mansion looking toward the west, framed by West Virginia flora.
West Virginia Governor's Mansion is a 30-room Georgian revival structure overlooking the Kanawha River, designed by Charleston architect Walter F. Martens. It was started in 1924 and completed right before the gubernatorial inauguration in 1926.
A portion of the proceeds from the ornament sales benefits the West Virginia Governor's Mansion Preservation Foundation to ensure future generations will be able to enjoy the mansion's rich history.
