* The Thompsons sue for injuries James sustained in a vehicle accident on Jan. 12, 2004, on W.Va. 34 near Teays Valley. They say McCraw was driving a flatbed owned by Mt. Airy Equipment, a company based in Mt. Airy, N.C., carelessly, recklessly and negligently. The accident gave James serious and permanent injuries both physical and physiological, the suit claims. His wife sues for loss of consortium.

* Miller claims Schonce, a fellow resident of Hurricane, struck her with his vehicle while she was walking along Route 19 in Hurricane. She suffered a concussion, loose teeth and injuries to her lower extremities. She sues for medical expenses, loss of earnings, loss of enjoyment of life, mental anguish, annoyance, aggravation and inconvenience.
