* Virginia Call claims Protective Life has neglected to pay off a loan with Branch Bank and Trust since the death of her husband, Dwight E. Call, on October 17, 2004. The suit claims the payment of the loan was a stipulation of the $2,595 insurance policy they purchased from the company on July 3, 2003. Call is seeking forgiveness of the loan and punitive damages.

* Gray Hawk Coal claims it is owed a minimum of $150,000 in unpaid coal royalties. The Cabell County coal company subleased rights to mine 500 acres of land to Appalachian Fuels through Tri-County Mining in September 2001. The suit claims Appalachian halted mining and neglected to pay the royalties on 300,000 tons of mineable coal left in the land.
