MORGANTOWN -- "I was gratified by my election as Chairman of the Board and the expression of confidence in me by my fellow board members. This is going to be an exciting year to be chairman," said Stephen LaCagnin, administrative manager and head of the litigation department of the Morgantown office of Jackson Kelly PLLC.

He was recently elected Chairman of the Morgantown Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

The Morgantown Area Chamber of Commerce has served as the leading organization representing the interests of the area's business community for 85 years. Its accomplishments on behalf of its members have helped shape the Morgantown community and establish a Chamber of Commerce with a tradition of excellence in service.

"We have exceptional growth occurring in Morgantown, creating a thriving business environment fueled by unprecedented cooperation between the business community, Morgantown city officials, and West Virginia University," said LaCagnin. "When we add to that an energetic, professional, and creative Chamber Board with high aspirations for this community, we have all of the ingredients for not only dramatically increasing Chamber of Commerce membership, but also for continuing to improve the quality of life in Morgantown.

LaCagnin received his B.S. from West Virginia University and his J.D. from the West Virginia University College of Law. His legal practice has defended businesses and their management from "mom and pop shops" to nationally known Fortune 500 companies in state and federal courts. He twice served as campaign chair and board president of the United Way of Monongalia and Preston counties, as president of the Morgantown Rotary Club, and as spokesperson for the Tri-County Well Region Initiative. Mr. LaCagnin currently serves on the boards of directors of the Wellness Council of West Virginia (a local hospital and hospice organization), West Virginia Public Theatre, and the Morgantown Rotary Club Foundation.

In April 2002, 2003, and 2004, LaCagnin was named one of the most influential people in North Central West Virginia by The Dominion Post. Also in 2004, the West Virginia Bar Foundation recognized him as its "Lawyer Citizen of the Year."
