Charleston -- Join "The Law Works" on West Virginia PBS this Thursday at 8:30 p.m. for the program's first call-in show. Host

Dan Ringer and his guests will answer general questions, particularly in the area of family law. Viewers may call 1-800-375-4049 from 8:30 to 9 p.m.

Ringer's guests include attorneys Roger D. Curry of Fairmont and Michelle Widmer-Eby of Morgantown. Both are family law practitioners. Curry has more than 28 years of experience, and Widmer-Eby is a former state child advocate in Monongalia and Preston counties.

"I'm very excited about the prospect of audience participation through a call-in format," Ringer said. "We hope to accomplish two things – one, let our audience know that the law is not a scary thing, it is intended to help and protect citizens; and two, help everyone to understand their rights and obligations under the law. It's not always necessary to consult with a lawyer. There are many, many resources available, including this program."

"The Law Works" is a weekly show on West Virginia PBS discussing legal issues that effect daily life. Now in its seventh season, "The Law Works" has considered issues ranging from how to buy a house, to the relevance of marriage in the 21st Century, to the law of war. Guests have included four Chief Justices of the West Virginia Supreme Court, three presidents of the American Bar Association, the Dean of the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, the Attorney General of West Virginia and many trial court judges, law professors, U.S. Attorneys, and practicing West Virginia attorneys.

"The Law Works" is produced by West Virginia Public Broadcasting in cooperation with the West Virginia State Bar, the Mountain State Bar, The West Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and the West Virginia University College of Law.
