Xerox wants money from Charleston church

CHARLESTON -- Xerox Corporation is demanding payment from a Charleston church because of violations on a lease agreement between the two.

First Baptist Church, located at 432 Shrewsbury St. in Charleston, leased a DocuColor and Controller from Xerox in December 2003.

The terms of the lease state the church agreed to pay a minimum lease payment of $742.95 per month for the DocuColor and $249 per month for the controller, along with additional print charges and fees at the rate set forth at the time of the lease.

The suit states the church failed to pay its December 2005 rent, and each payment after.

Xerox elected to accelerate the lease payment, therefore the church now owes Xerox $35,062.81.

"The church, although requested to do so, has failed and refused, and still refuses to make payment of the balance," the suit states.

Xerox also wants the church to pay $293.93 for other fees.

The suit was filed by Robert L. Bandy and has been assigned to Judge Irene Berger.
