CHARLESTON -- In collaboration with the American Institute for Managing Diversity (AIMD), The University of Charleston presents "Managing Diversity Leadership Conference: A 2007 KingDay Collaboration," Jan. 15 at the University of Charleston.

On-site registration begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Appalachian Room at the University. Information and online registration forms are available at www.jacksonkelly.com. Registration is limited to 150 people. Pre-registrants will receive complimentary parking and shuttle service.

The Managing Diversity Leadership Conference (MDLC) will encourage constructive collaboration on challenges and opportunities for effective diversity management. Its goal is to allow participants to redefine diversity from a new perspective and to improve competencies in managing differences and similarities in a variety of diversity mixtures. The MDLC will feature author and diversity management expert Dr. R. Roosevelt Thomas Jr. as the keynote speaker.

Monday is the 21st anniversary of the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday, and Americans will remember and honor King's legacy of tolerance, peace, and equality by meeting community needs and making the holiday ... "A day ON, not a day OFF"

The Managing Diversity Leadership Conference will honor Dr. King's the life and work by engaging community leaders, educators, and entrepreneurs in "a day on and day long" learning experience to address the challenges and opportunities of managing diversity in the 21st century."

Schedule of Events

9:00 a.m. -- General Session opens in the Appalachian Room at U.C with Thomas addressing the theme: "Redefining Diversity in the Post Civil Rights Era Via King's Vision of the Beloved Community."

10:30 a.m. -- Participants will gather in Learning Circles to focus on the topic Defining Diversity Leadership in the Post Civil Rights Era.

Noon -- Conference Luncheon sponsored by Jackson Kelly will convene in the U.C. Rotunda where Thomas will discuss: "Building on the Promise of Diversity: Principles, Practices, Process."

1:30 p.m. -- Learning Circles will resume to collaborate on the subject: "Challenges and Opportunities for Diversity Leadership: Strategies for Building on the Promise of Diversity."

3:00 p.m. -- General Session will feature reports from Learning Circles on "Next Steps on Developing Diversity Leadership" and Conference evaluations.

The West Virginia Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Commission has approved the conference for 6.30 CLE credits in Office Management and Elimination of Bias for attorneys licensed through the State Bar. The Office of Continuing Education and Community Services at West Virginia State Community and Technical College, an accredited provider to the West Virginia State Bar and MCLE Commission, will provide this service for attorneys. Other accredited CEU's will also be available.
