PERSONNEL FILE: Jackson Kelly attorney appointed to PSC

CHARLESTON - Gov. Joe Manchin appointed a Charleston attorney to fill a vacancy on the state Public Service Commission last week.

Mike Albert, who works at Jackson Kelly, replaces Mike Shaw, a lawyer who resigned in December to return to private practice in Mason County. Albert's six-year term on the commission will begin Feb. 15.

Albert, a West Virginia University College of Law graduate, joins commission members Jon McKinney and Edward Staats.

State law requires that no more than two members of the three-member commission be of the same political party, and oOne member must be a lawyer with 10 years of experience as a member of the State Bar. Neither McKinney nor Staats are attorneys, and both are Democrats.

According to the mission statement of the Public Service Commission, it is an organization that promotes utility regulatory and transportation safety in the best interests of all parties.
