Morgan County Courthouse to be demolished

BERKELEY SPRINGS - The Morgan County Courthouse is set to be demolished following a fire in August that destroyed most of the building.

United Wreckers and Excavators Inc. of Martinsburg bid $346,865 for the demolition, which includes a $9,000 addendum to save the marble on the courthouse entrance.

Bill Clark, Morgan County administrator, said the demolition contract will be signed within two weeks and the company will have 140 days to complete the demolition. The actual demolition is expected to take about 10 weeks, followed by two weeks for site preparation.

Silling Associates Inc., a Charleston architectural firm, was hired by the county to design the new courthouse building.
