CHARLESTON - Jackson Kelly is pleased to announce the return of James "Rob" Alsop to the firm's Charleston Business Department.

"We are excited to have Rob rejoin the firm," said Mike Foster, managing member of Jackson Kelly. "We applaud the commitment he has shown to serving this State and its citizens. The experience and leadership skills which Rob has gained and honed these last several years will be beneficial to both the Firm and its clients."

Alsop practiced law with Jackson Kelly from 2002-2004 before serving as Deputy General Counsel to Gov. Joe Manchin in 2005. Alsop served as General Counsel for the West Virginia Department of Revenue before being appointed as Cabinet Secretary for the West Virginia Department of Revenue. He served as Secretary from December 2006 - October 2007.

Alsop received his bachelor's degree in political science from West Virginia University in 1999. He is also a 2002 graduate of the West Virginia College of Law, and served as Editor-in-Chief of the West Virginia Law Review. Following his graduation from law school, Alsop served as a law clerk for the United States Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit, for the Honorable Robert Bruce King.

During his time with the State, Alsop was involved in several critical legislative issues including the privatization of Workers' Compensation and restructuring of the tax system with his work on the Tax Modernization Project.

Alsop also represented the Department of Revenue in the Streamlined Sales Project, a national effort by State governments to simplify and modernize sales and use tax collection and administration.

In addition, Alsop served as Manchin's designee on the West Virginia Investment Management Board and the West Virginia Board of Treasury Investments.

Alsop resides in Charleston with his wife, Jessica, a Jackson Kelly Business Law attorney, and their daughters, Audrey and Elizabeth.
