PERSONNEL FILE: Hersh attends tax seminar

MARTINSBURG -- Brett Hersh of Hersh Business Services recently attended a seminar covering changes in the 2007 tax code and factors complicating individual taxation.

Topics included changes in record keeping necessary for deducting charitable contributions, consequences of Congress's failure to implement changes to the alternative minimum tax for 2007, and the impact of foreclosures and related debt forgiveness on individual taxpayers.

The seminar was held Nov. 15-16 in Springfield, Va., and was conducted by the National Center for Professional Education. As an enrolled agent, Hersh receives 36 hours of continuing education annually on topics exclusive to individual and business taxation.

Enrolled agents are the only tax preparers licensed by the U.S. Department of Treasury. They specialize in taxation and go through strict testing and application procedures.

Hersh Business Services is based in Martinsburg and provides tax, bookkeeping and payroll services to individuals and businesses and class action administration services to law firms in the region.
