CHARLESTON -- Jackson Kelly has announced that Kevin Wiggins has joined the firm as counsel in the firm's Clarksburg office.
Wiggins practices in the Business Department, focusing on employee benefits, pensions, executive compensation and ERISA litigation. He graduated summa cum laude in 1992 from the University of North Florida with a B.A. in Economics. In 1996, he graduated from Cornell Law School.
Wiggins' practice is dedicated to the areas of qualified and non-qualified retirement plans, equity-based and executive compensation, and health and welfare benefits. His clients range from start-up enterprises to mature publicly traded companies.
Wiggins has practiced in employee benefits for more than 10 years. He has represented clients before the Department of Labor, the Internal Revenue Service, as well as in ERISA litigation. He has successfully argued ERISA litigation cases in both state and federal courts, including before the United State Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit; obtained numerous prohibited transaction exemptions from the Department of Labor; advised clients on complex fiduciary issues, including the investment of pension plan and IRA assets in domestic and international corporations, limited liability companies, and private equity funds; participated in complex mergers and acquisitions; participated in securities, commercial banking, and bankruptcy proceedings and transactions involving issues arising under Title I and Title IV of ERISA and related provisions of the Internal Revenue Code; obtained numerous plan qualification determination letters and compliance letters under the Internal Revenue Service Employee Plans Compliance Resolution System; and advised on tax, accounting, and securities law issues related to qualified, non-qualified, and executive compensation arrangements.
