Insurance licenses now can be printed online

CHARLESTON -- West Virginia Insurance Commissioner Jane L. Cline has announced that individuals and business entities licensed to transact the business of insurance in the State of West Virginia now have the capability of printing their new or renewed insurance licenses from the convenience of a personal computer.

License cards no longer will be printed or mailed from the West Virginia Offices of the Insurance Commissioner.

"Licensed Insurance Producers, Business Entities and Adjusters, with just a few simple key strokes, will have their licenses in hand within seconds", Cline said. "In the past, individuals would have to wait seven to ten working days after their license renewal fee was posted for their license to be printed and mailed to them.

"Now, those licenses are available for online printing the next business day after the fee has been posted. First-time licensees will also be able to print their licenses the next business day after the new license application is processed into our database."

Licensed insurance producers can have their licenses in a matter of seconds by logging onto the department's Web site at www.wvinsurance.gov and clicking the "Online License Print" link.

As licensed insurance producers and other licensees learn about this quick and convenient option to download their licenses electronically, the West Virginia Offices of the Insurance Commissioner expects to save the State of West Virginia thousands of dollars annually in printing and mailing costs. In 2007, the department spent over $39,000 to print and mail paper licenses to over 60,000 licensed insurance individuals, business entities and adjusters.

This is the latest in a series of online services for the industry and consumers available on the West Virginia Offices of the Insurance Commissioner Web site. Online renewal for non-resident producers has been available for several years and, it is anticipated that online renewal will be available in 2008 for resident producers. Other online services for consumers include: finding a licensed insurance company, finding a licensed insurance producer or agency and various reports and statistical information.
