Assisting the public at the front window is only one of the duties Adele Vokolek does at the District Clerk's Office.

At the Jefferson County District Clerk's Office, whenever an attorney needs to file papers, a juror needs a form signed or a resident wants to look up a lawsuit, it is usually Adele Vokolek that gives them a hand.
After 15 years, Vokolek is retiring as deputy clerk. She has served under two district clerks, first John Appleman and now Lolita Ramos.
During her tenure, Vokolek says the biggest change at the clerk's office has been in technology.
"There has been a lot of progress," she said. "It really made the job a lot easier."
Nonetheless, Vokolek is always busy. She answers phone calls, enters computer data, accepts court documents and helps out confused jurors (or attorneys). Vokolek is also available to assist users on the public access terminals.
She said her working style may be "a little bossy, but never stern," to which her co-workers laughed in agreement.
Immediately after retirement, the Nederland resident plans to spend a month in Florida with her daughter and grandson.
"After that, I don't know!" she said.
Vokolek said she will really miss her co-workers in the clerk's office.
"Oh, I will miss these girls," she said. "We get along great, like family."
