Defining hate crimes on 'The Law Works'

CHARLESTON -– On next week's 'The Law Works," host Dan Ringer and his guest will define "hate crimes" in legal terms and how these types of offenses differ from others.

Watch "The Law Works" at 8:30 p.m. Thursday on West Virginia PBS.

Ringer's guest will be Charleston attorney Elliot Hicks who specializes in litigation and mediation. Hicks is also a past president of the West Virginia State Bar and a West Virginia Bar Foundation Fellow.

Future programs of "The Law Works" will discuss the role of the West Virginia Ethics Commission (May 15) and the Open Governmental Proceedings Act (May 22) with Ethics Commission executive director Lewis Brewer and vice chairman Jim Shepherd.

"The Law Works" is the state's only weekly television show discussing legal issues that effect daily life. The program provides West Virginians with important information concerning the legal system from a national, regional and local perspective. "The Law Works" is produced by West Virginia Public Broadcasting in cooperation with the West Virginia State Bar, The West Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, the West Virginia University College of Law and ALPS Professional Insurance.
