FiberNet wins National Technology Innovation Award

LAS VEGAS -– FiberNet, a One Communications company, has announced that it was named a national award winner in the Excellence in Network Design and Services –- Network Infrastructure Category at the 2008 NXTComm conference.

President and COO David Armentrout accepted the 2008 NXTComm Eos award on behalf of FiberNet.

"We are honored the cutting edge technology we utilize is being recognized across the nation," Armentrout said. "To win a national award for our big broadband network infrastructure deployment is a tribute to the hard work of FiberNet employees."

FiberNet, one of the nation's most successful privately held telecommunications companies, boasts a diverse multiring state of the art fiber optic network that spans across six states, including West Virginia, Ohio, and Maryland. The company is one of the leading integrated telecommunications providers in its service areas and serves over 30,000 customers with nearly 100,000 lines.

In 2007, FiberNet worked with Calix to field test a GPON capable technology. President Dave Armentrout stated, "We were very satisfied with the initial results and excited to be in a position to deliver up to 100 megabits of bandwidth per customer on a superior optical last mile network. We can enhance our customer experience by eliminating the antiquated and often problematic last mile copper plant with our fiber to the business solution."

FiberNet launched an aggressive fiber-to-the-business deployment in 2008 and is currently on pace to have 18-20 percent of current customers on-net with 35 percent of the West Virginia market big broadband capable by the end of the year.

"We have a unique strategy; deliver big broadband to rural communities, work with community leaders to develop the best strategy for their town, and partner together to get it done," Armentrout said.

Armentrout emphasized FiberNet's commitment to provide broadband services to rural West Virginia and other surrounding states.

"We are proud of our efforts to deploy this big broadband technology in underserved areas. FiberNet has been able to deliver exceptional broadband services to businesses that have been without this service for far too long. This award validates our commitment to fiber and illustrates how advanced services can benefit all, not just those in metropolitan areas."

The second annual NXTcomm Eos Awards honor exhibiting companies that have developed the most promising new technologies or provided the best new network services and strategic support. A judging panel of 16 consultants, technical journalists, and service providers from the communications industry selected the Eos Award winners.

"This year's Eos winners demonstrated the best and most promising advancements to the network-enabled voice, video, and data ecosystem," said Wayne Crawford, NXTcomm executive director. "We congratulate FiberNet for its leadership, innovation and role in driving our industry forward."
