PERSONNEL FILE: Spilman Thomas & Battle announces new members

CHARLESTON -– The law firm of Spilman Thomas & Battle is pleased to announce the election of the following new members.

* Carter R. Brothers practices in the Roanoke, Va., office. His primary areas of practice are estate planning and administration, taxation, bond finance, and corporate law.

Brothers received his B.A. in 1990 from Williams College, his J.D. in 1997 from Vanderbilt University and his Masters of Law in Taxation in 1998 from the University of Florida. He is admitted to the Virginia and Tennessee State Bars.

* Larissa C. Dean practices in the Morgantown office. Her focus is labor and employment law. She also formed the firm's Women's Initiative which is comprised of local professional women in a networking setting.

She received her B.A. from University of California, Riverside and her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. She is admitted to the West Virginia, New York and New Jersey State Bars.

* Elliot G. Hicks practices in the Charleston office. He has a long career as a trial lawyer. He has taken over 90 jury trials to verdict and is highly sought after as a mediator. Hicks has served as the West Virginia State Bar president.

He received his B.A. and J.D. from West Virginia University. He is admitted to the West Virginia State Bar.

* Amy R. King practices in the Charleston office. King is a certified public accountant and her primary areas of practice are public and private finance and corporate law.

She is a graduate of the University of Richmond and received her J.D. from Washington and Lee University School of Law. She is admitted to the West Virginia and North Carolina State Bars.

* Peter R. Rich practices in the Pittsburgh, Pa., office. He is a labor and employment lawyer with over 25 years of experience. Rich has assisted and successfully served as a chief negotiator for employers in a number of labor contract negotiations and has presented hundreds of labor arbitration cases. He also has legal and hands-on management experience with all types of human resource issues, including the drafting and administration of personnel policies, corporate downsizing programs, and the defense of civil rights claims. He is a member of the workers' compensation group.

He graduated from Allegheny College and received his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. He is admitted to the Pennsylvania and West Virginia State Bars and to the United States Courts of Appeal for the Third, Fourth and Sixth Circuits.
