McCarty
HUNTINGTON -- Attorneys Chris Plybon and Cindy McCarty will speak at the Gas, Oil, and Mineral Land Law Seminar on Feb. 20 in Charleston.
Plybon is a partner at Huddleston Bolen, and McCarty is a senior associate at the firm. Both attorneys practice in the firm's Huntington office.
Plybon and McCarty will present on West Virginia Oil and Gas Title Issues, and Trespass Theories and Other Remedies. In particular, their presentation will cover topics such as: the distinction between coalbed methane and oil and gas, implied drill through rights, implied rights to use the surface for oil and gas operations, ownership of oil and gas rights under a railroad rights of way, drilling covenants, and remedies under the Oil and Gas Conservation Act. The seminar includes a four-person faculty.
Other topics to be addressed include Rights of Mineral and Surface Owners under West Virginia Law, Common Gas Lease Provisions, and Conflicts and Competition between Coal, Oil, and Gas Owners.
Sponsored by Continuing Legal Education, a division of HalfMoon LLC, the program is a practical, one-day program for attorneys, title producers, landmen, and engineers. It is approved for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit.
A partner at Huddleston Bolen, Plybon's primary practice areas include real estate and natural resources law, commercial transactions, economic development and tax exempt bond financing matters, banking law, corporate law, and bankruptcy. He served as assistant reporter to the West Virginia Law Institute on the project that resulted in the revision of the statutes governing the procedures for the sale of real property for delinquent taxes in West Virginia.
A frequent lecturer on CLE topics related to real estate and natural resources law, collections, bankruptcy, and the impact of revised Article 9, Plybon also has served as an adjunct faculty member at the Marshall Community and Technical College, teaching courses in real estate law.
With a focus on gas, oil and mineral law, McCarty practices primarily in civil litigation involving natural resources, land use, commercial law, and mass torts. She is a member of the West Virginia State Bar Association, the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation, and DRI, the largest organization of defense trial lawyers in the U.S.
McCarty joined Huddleston Bolen in 2003.
The seminar is scheduled for Feb. 20 at Holiday Inn Charleston House in Charleston. The seminar consists of a morning and afternoon session, with a lunch break (on your own). Online registration is available at www.halfmoonseminars.com.
