HUNTINGTON -- Huddleston Bolen has announced that attorney Karen Poulton has joined the firm. She will work from the firm's Huntington office.

Poulton's primary practice areas are trusts, estates, and taxation law, with a special focus on supplemental needs trusts. With a supplemental needs trust, a family member may establish a trust for a disabled individual without jeopardizing the beneficiary's eligibility for Medicaid and other government benefits.

An Ohio native, Poulton graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Sociology in Special Education, and a Masters in Speech Language Pathology. She continued her education at the University of Florida, where she completed doctoral studies in Special Education. Prior to attending law school at Washburn School of Law in Topeka, Kansas, Poulton taught language development and disorders at the University of Nebraska.

While in law school, Poulton was associate editor of the Washburn Law Review and published author of an article entitled "Employment Discrimination: Subjective Employment Practices Under the Disparate Impact Theory: Merging Evidentiary Standards?" She received the American Jurisprudence Award in Family Law and graduated with her Doctorate of Jurisprudence with Dean's Honors in 1991.

MPoulton acquired a broad legal background working for law firms in Kansas, Nebraska and Indiana before coming to West Virginia. She has been involved in litigation, mediation and arbitration. Poulton currently is admitted to practice in West Virginia, Nebraska, Massachusetts, and Kansas.

"Our on-going strategic plans include the addition of top caliber talent. We are thrilled that Karen has joined our team and look forward to her many positive contributions for our clients," said Tom Gilpin, Chair of the firm's Management Committee.
