Southworth
CHARLESTON -– The 15th edition of The Best Lawyers in America, a peer-review publication in the legal profession ("Best Lawyers"), has named Louis Southworth II as the "West Virginia Best Lawyers Corporate Lawyer of the Year" for 2009.
Southworth is a member of Jackson Kelly and focuses his law practice on administrative, business and commercial, business planning, leases, legislative services, mergers and acquisitions, securities and corporate law. In addition, he is actively involved with the American and West Virginia Bar Associations and is a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel. He is also a trustee of many professional and civic associations and serves in philanthropic organizations such as the University of Charleston and the Clay Foundation.
"This honor is very well deserved – but not unexpected," Jackson Kelly CEO Mike Foster said. "Louis' long-standing history of commitment to his clients – providing legal AND business advice – qualifies him for the recognition. His ability to craft strategies that effectively implement client goals – while simultaneously providing for a "fair deal" to the client's constituents – has earned him a reputation as a true leader of industry. This recognition by his legal peers is a testament to that reputation."
After more than a quarter of a century in publication, Best Lawyers is designating "Lawyers of the Year" in high-profile legal areas in large legal communities. These areas are Banking Law, Bet-the-Company Litigation, Corporate Law, Family Law, Personal Injury Litigation, and Real Estate Law and only a single lawyer in each area in each community is being honored as the "Lawyer of the Year".
Best Lawyers compiles its lists of outstanding attorneys by conducting peer-review surveys in which thousands of leading lawyers confidentially evaluate their professional peers. The current edition is based on more than 2.5 million detailed evaluations of lawyers by other lawyers. The lawyers being honored as "Lawyers of the Year" have received particularly high ratings in our surveys by earning a high level of respect among their peers for their abilities, professionalism and integrity.
Jackson Kelly represents global corporations, national companies, entrepreneurs and individuals in areas of law such as environmental, business, labor and employment, federal and state workers' compensation, civil litigation and occupational safety and health.
The firm has offices in West Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Colorado and the District of Columbia.
