PERSONNEL FILE: Ramey named Foundation Fellow

CHARLESTON -- Ancil G. Ramey has been named a 2009 Foundation Fellow by the West Virginia Bar Foundation.

He will be honored at the Foundation Fellows Reception and Dinner on April 30.

Ramey concentrates his practice in the areas of appellate litigation, commercial litigation, and insurance litigation. Prior to joining Steptoe & Johnson, he served as Clerk of the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia for more than a decade.

Ramey is recognized in the fields of appellate law and commercial litigation in The Best Lawyers in America and has been named an outstanding lawyer by Super Lawyers. He has been noted as counsel of record in over one hundred published opinions by various federal and state appellate courts.

Ramey is President of the West Virginia Board of Law Examiners, a member of the West Virginia Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Committee, and a member emeritus of the National Conference of Appellate Court Clerks. He is a recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the West Virginia University Department of Public Administration; the Distinguished Service Award of the West Virginia State Bar; and the Distinguished Service Award of the West Virginia Trial Lawyers Association.

Ramey has lectured extensively and published articles on a variety of topics including appellate practice, evidence, criminal procedure, civil procedure, workers' compensation, judicial ethics, legal ethics, contempt, injunctions, habeas corpus, extraordinary remedies, punitive damages, government immunity, insurance, and bar admissions.

Ramey joins other Steptoe & Johnson fellows Robert M. Steptoe, Jr., James M. Wilson, Ralph J. Bean, Jr., Lucien G. Lewin, Patrick D. Deem and Gary W. Nickerson.
