Law Day open house set for Supreme Court Law Library

CHARLESTON -- The Supreme Court of Appeals Law Library will sponsor an open house on Friday, May 1 to commemorate Law Day.

Law Day was proclaimed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1958 as a day to reflect on the role of law in the founding of our country and to recognize its importance for society. The theme for 2009 is a Legacy of Liberty: Celebrating Lincoln's Bicentennial.

The Law Library's open house will be held from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Events include tours of the Library, explanations of the West Virginia legal system and free instruction on performing basic legal research. Refreshments will be provided.

The State Law Library is located in the Capitol Complex in Building 1, Room E-404. Metered parking is available next to the parking structure on Piedmont Avenue and on California Avenue. Activities are free and open to the public.

For more information, contact the Supreme Court Law Library at (304) 558-2607.
