CLARKSBURG -- C. David Morrison, a member of the law firm of Steptoe & Johnson, has been elected President of the Energy and Mineral Law Foundation (EMLF), a nationwide, non-profit educational organization.
The EMLF provides information on legal issues related to the energy and mineral industry through workshops, special programs, publications and electronic information.
Based in Lexington, Ky., EMLF strives to foster the study of energy, mineral and natural resources law through quality, cost-effective and timely education, and to provide a continuing forum for industry, government, attorneys, legal scholars and the general public to engage in an intellectually honest examination of the legal issues involved in energy and natural resources development.
"EMLF just celebrated its 30th anniversary of operation, and I am honored to serve as its President." Morrison said. "The upcoming year promises to be fruitful ..."
He said the group will host its first "Coal Law Short Course" Aug. 2-6 at the West Virginia University College of Law.
"Many coal lawyers and law faculty have been involved in developing the content for this 25-hour course, which will be an excellent source of information to lawyers new to the practice of coal law, and an equally important review for experienced attorneys who want a refresher course," he said.
Morrison is the chairman of Steptoe & Johnson's Labor and Employment Department and has more than 25 years of experience in employment trial and appellate practice and employment counseling, including supervisory training.
A graduate of Transylvania University (B.A.) and the University of Kentucky (J.D.), Morrison has presented numerous seminars for clients and trade associations, and has served as an adjunct lecturer on trial advocacy and pretrial strategies at West Virginia University College of Law.
He is an active member of the West Virginia Coal Association, the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference, the American Bar Association, the Harrison County Chamber of Commerce, and the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce. Morrison served on the board of trustees for Alderson-Broaddus College for 12 years, and currently serves on the boards of directors of 20/10 Consulting, LLC, a Steptoe & Johnson-owned company and of the Harrison County YMCA.
