PERSONNEL FILE: David Hammond joins Steptoe & Johnson

CHARLESTON -– Steptoe & Johnson is pleased to welcome David G. Hammond as Of Counsel in the firm's Charleston office.

Hammond will focus his practice in the areas of commercial transactions, real estate and land use, coal, oil and gas and natural resources.

Prior to joining Steptoe & Johnson, Hammond was Assistant General Counsel for International Coal Group Inc., where he was responsible for acquisition and disposition of land and coal reserves, corporate governance issues and other general corporate matters. He previously spent 18 years in private law practice handling large real estate development and commercial transactions.

The list of projects on which Hammond has worked include conversion of the old Diamond Department Store building into offices for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, development and construction of Appalachian Power Park, Soaring Eagle Lodge at Snowshoe and Merritt Creek Crossing Shopping Center.

Hammond received his law degree from Washington & Lee University and his undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech.

Hammond was named to Chambers USA's America's Leading Lawyers for Business and was ranked highly by the law firm referral source, Martindale-Hubbell. He is active in the community, particularly Habitat for Humanity, which named Hammond "Volunteer of the Millennium" for his work in Kanawha and Putnam Counties. Hammond also serves as a member of the Kanawha County Building Commission.
