HUNTINGTON – Two women have filed suit against the city of Huntington after they say the van in which they were riding collapsed through a sinkhole in one of the city's alleys.
June C. and Joanna D. Sexton claim they were traveling to work in a van Joanna Sexton owned.
As the women were driving down 5 1/2 Alley in Huntington, the alley gave way under the weight of the van, causing a large hole in the street, according to the complaint filed July 27 in Cabell Circuit Court.
Because of the incident, June Sexton was seriously and permanently injured, the complaint says.
Both women suffered physical and mental pain, incurred hospital and medical bills, will suffer a loss of enjoyment of life and lost wages, the suit states.
They say the failed to maintain its streets and alleyways in a safe condition.
The Sextons are seeking an unspecified judgment to reasonably compensate them for their injuries.
Michael C. Walker of Green, Ketchum, Bailey and Tweel in Huntington will be representing them.
The case has been assigned to Judge F. Jane Hustead.
