PERSONNEL FILE: Spilman Thomas & Battle hires Williamson

CHARLESTON -– Spilman Thomas & Battle is pleased to announce that Derrick Price Williamson has joined the firm as a member.

Williamson has more than 15 years of experience counseling clients regarding the procurement of energy services and representing clients before state public service/utility commissions and appellate courts.

He also has served for more than a decade as counsel to the West Virginia Energy Users Group, an association of large industrial, manufacturing, and institutional concerns that collectively consume nearly 4 billion kWh of electricity annually in West Virginia. Williamson will be actively engaged in developing Spilman's Public Utility, Energy, and Communications Law practice group in the firm's four-state footprint in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Virginia.

Williamson earned his Bachelor of Arts degree, summa cum laude, at the University of Maryland, where he also was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Williamson then earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence at the prestigious Duke University School of Law. At Duke, he was a Neill Blue Scholar, and he served as the Research Editor for the Duke Environmental Law & Policy Forum.

Williamson's practice is focused primarily on energy and public utility law, and his office is located in Pennsylvania.

He has substantial experience in legislative development and implementation associated with electric industry restructuring and telecommunications competition in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. His representation of manufacturing, institutional, and industrial clients not only includes regulatory litigation, but also the analysis and negotiation of natural gas and electricity supply contracts.

Williamson has been distinguished as one of "The Best Lawyers in America" in Energy Law, and he is the former Chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Public Utility Law section. In addition to these accomplishments, he has served as an adjunct professor at Duquesne University's Capital Region Campus in the School of Leadership and Professional Advancement.

Williamson is a veteran of the U.S. Army.
