Sturgeon
CHARLESTON -- Kay Casto & Chaney has announced that member attorney James M. Sturgeon Jr. has been named to the Enforcement Practices Committee of the National Association State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA).
In July 2009, Sturgeon was elected president of the West Virginia Board of Accountancy, which regulates the accounting profession.
Sturgeon is a Certified Public Accountant in West Virginia and has been an instructor in the accounting department of West Virginia State College. He has taught continuing education courses for the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the West Virginia State Bar.
He previously served as Chairman of the Charleston Regional Chamber of Commerce and as Chairman of the West Virginia State University Foundation and currently serves as Chairman of the State Tax Committee of the West Virginia CPA Society.
Sturgeon received his AB degree in Natural Sciences (chemistry and physics) from the Johns Hopkins University and a JD degree from the Washington and Lee University Law School where he also held a Burks Teaching Fellowship. Sturgeon received a Masters Degree in Industrial Engineering and Systems Analysis from West Virginia University College of Graduate Studies. He is a member of the Virginia, Ohio and West Virginia Bars.
In addition to practicing law in Charleston for more than three decades, Sturgeon has competed in more than 60 marathons and is a past winner of the Charleston Trophy awarded to the first Charleston finisher in the Charleston Distance Run.
