CHARLESTON -– The law firm of Spilman Thomas & Battle is pleased to announce the election of the following new Partners effective Jan. 1.
Matthew P. Heiskell practices in the Morgantown office. He joined the firm in 2006. His primary area of practice is litigation focusing on complex commercial disputes, fraud claims, class actions, natural resources and energy production, consumer finance and intellectual property.
Heiskell attended Woodberry Forest School and received his B.A. in Political Science in 1995 from West Virginia University. He obtained his J.D. in 1998 from Duquesne University and his LL.M. in International Trade and Banking in 1999 from the American University Washington College of Law.
He is admitted to the West Virginia, New York and Pennsylvania State Bars; the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia; and the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
James H. Joseph practices in the Pittsburgh office and focuses on general business law and commercial bankruptcy and creditors' rights, including the representation of secured and unsecured creditors, official committees of unsecured creditors, chapter 11 debtors, commercial landlords, asset purchasers, and licensors and licensees of intellectual property. He joined the firm in 2006.
He received his B.A. in Political Science, magna cum laude, in 1994 and his J.D. in 1998, both from the University of Pittsburgh.
He is admitted to the Pennsylvania and Delaware Supreme Courts; the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit; and the United States District Courts for the Western District of Pennsylvania and the District of Delaware.
Nicholas P. Mooney II practices in the Charleston office. He joined the firm in 2005. His primary area of practice is consumer credit and protection litigation in federal and state courts. He has devoted all of his time for the last 10 years to that practice area. In the past, he also has practiced energy law and general litigation.
He received his B.A., cum laude, in 1993 from Marshall University. He obtained his J.D. in 1996 from West Virginia University.
He is admitted to the West Virginia State Bar; the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals; the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia; the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit; and the United States Supreme Court.
