CHARLESTON -- Employers, business executives, attorneys, lobbyists, plant managers and others are encouraged to register to attend the West Virginia Chamber's 2010 Legislative Issues & Outlook Conference, which will be held Tuesday, Jan. 12, at the Charleston Marriott.

The conference will provide attendees with updates and outlooks on a wide range of state and federal issues, as well as a political outlook for the coming year. The event also will provide a great networking opportunity.

The Legislative Issues & Outlook Conference will be the day before the start of the 2010 regular session of the West Virginia Legislature and will begin with issue briefings on key federal and state matters -- legal reform/judicial reform, taxation, human resource/employment matters and environmental/energy issues.

Gov. Joe Manchin will kick off the conference with a speech at 1 p.m., and later that evening nationally recognized political analyst and commentator Charlie Cook will be the evening speaker. Cook is editor and publisher of The Cook Political Report and a regular commentator on NBC News.

"The conference will be a unique opportunity for the state's business community to get updates and overviews of key federal and state issues and to hear about outlooks for 2010, particularly regarding the mid-term congressional election and statewide and legislative races in West Virginia," said Chamber President Steve Roberts. "There are many major issues being considered in Washington and Charleston, and employers of all sizes need to be aware of what may be coming in 2010."

Senate President Earl Ray Tomblin and House Speaker Richard Thompson and other legislative leaders will speak at the conference to provide their respective previews of the 2010 legislative session and the political outlook for the coming year.

The conference will include a reception and dinner, which will provide networking opportunities with other business leaders, legislators and elected officials.

There are two registration fees: $125 per person (which includes the opening luncheon, the afternoon sessions, reception and dinner) or $95 per person (which includes the afternoon sessions, reception and dinner).

To register for the conference, visit the West Virginia Chamber's Web site at www.wvchamber.com.
