Croyle
MORGANTOWN -– Kimberly S. Croyle, an attorney with 17 years experience in education law and other areas, has been named West Virginia University's general counsel and vice president for legal affairs.
Croyle, who earned both undergraduate and law degrees from WVU, has been a partner in the Morgantown office of Bowles Rice McDavid Graff & Love since 1999. She joined the firm in 1992 as an associate. Her appointment is effective Jan. 19.
In her new role, she will be responsible for providing legal counsel and guidance to WVU. She will also represent or coordinate the representation of WVU in judicial and administrative proceedings, including lawsuits and negotiations with other entities and organizations.
She will report jointly to the WVU Board of Governors and the University president.
"Kim Croyle has the type of legal and managerial experience we were looking for in this senior position," said WVU President James P. Clements. "Her background in and knowledge of education law is especially well suited for this role. I am pleased to welcome her back to her alma mater as part of our leadership team."

Among Croyle's clients are boards of education throughout West Virginia on education law issues such as the open governmental proceedings act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, Title IX compliance and others. As such, she litigates cases in state and federal court and appears before the West Virginia Public Employees Grievance board at administrative hearings and mediations.
She also provides guidance and counsel to clients in the areas of commercial and natural resources law, including contracting, leasing and property acquisitions.
Croyle supervises all aspects of the firm's human resources department as well, and served two terms on the firm's executive committee.
She is a frequent presenter at law conferences and has been published in publications of the American Association of School Administrators and National School Boards Association, among others. She is licensed in West Virginia, the U.S. District Courts for both the Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
She resides in Morgantown with her husband, Terry Croyle, and twin sons, Drew and Park.
At WVU, Croyle will oversee a current staff of seven attorneys, two senior legal administrative assistants and two legal graduate assistants. Her annual salary will be $197,000.
