MORGANTOWN -- For the 20th consecutive year, the Justices of the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals visited Morgantown to hear cases at the West Virginia University College of Law.

During the March 9 trip, the justices also ruled on the appellate-advocacy skills of two second-year law students in the college's annual George C. Baker Cup Moot Court Competition.

Moot Court Finalists Amanda Gardner winner and Best Oralist, Mark Jefferies, Runner up. I have attached the program for reference as it has their bios.

Moot Court winner Amanda Gardner is a native of Moundsville. She is a 2004 graduate of John Marshall High School, and she then
graduated magna cum laude from West Virginia University in 2008 with a
B.A. in political science and minors in economics and geography.

Last summer, she worked as a summer clerk for a sole practitioner in Morgantown, and she currently works as a library clerk at Steptoe and Johnson's Morgantown office. She will graduate from West Virginia University College of Law in 2011.

Runner-up and Best Oralist Mark Jeffries is attending the WVU College of Law after a 22-year career in the U.S. Air Force and West Virginia Air National Guard, where he served as a C-130 navigator and RC-26 Mission Systems Officer. He was raised in Fayetteville and received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Concord University in 1994.

Gardner's name will be engraved on the Baker Cup, and she also will receive a $500 cash prize and a plaque. Jeffries received a plaque and a $350 cash prize.
