BERKELEY SPRINGS — The new Morgan County Courthouse recently opened.
The old courthouse was destroyed in a fire on Aug. 8, 2006. The new courthouse cost $10.5 million. The three-story facility is fully accessible by persons with disabilities. The exterior features a traditional façade with brick and stone veneer. The building houses civil, criminal and juvenile courtrooms as well as records storage vaults, holding cells and county offices.
While the new courthouse boasts a modern look, system upgrades and a new security screening area on the first floor, it also has a clock tower as its trademark feature, a nod to the old courthouse which was built on the corner of Fairfax and Washington streets in 1908.
