*** Inside (p8?) art package for 5/23 issue: Law school graduation

MORGANTOWN -- Professor Gregory W. Bowman, who was selected as Professor of the Year by the graduating class of the WVU College of Law, was the featured speaker at the 2011 WVU College of Law Hooding and Commencement Ceremony.

In his remarks Prof. Bowman, gave the graduates praise, encouragement and a look at the future. He directed his remarks to the family and friends of the graduates, asking that they be even prouder than they are of this new crop of lawyers. But he also said that this next year in the graduates' lives would be the toughest of their careers. Through that year they need the support of those in the audience, he said, but ultimately, he knew the graduates were up to the challenge.

As they left the WVU Creative Arts Center, the graduates were headed in many different directions, but he urged them to advocate for the state that nurtured them.

"What a state needs to really change, to really improve, to take it to the next level as they say is to have advocates both inside the state and outside the state," Bowman said. Those advocates I believe are sitting on the stage before you today. I have high hopes and high expectations for them. I do not think they will let us down."

Bowman, Visiting Associate Professor, received his J.D., cum laude, from Northwestern University School of Law. He also holds an M.A. in Economics of the European Community, with distinction (top honors), from the University of Exeter in England, and a B.A., summa cum laude, in Economics and International Studies from West Virginia University.

Bowman is the founding director of the International Law Center, Korean Summer Legal Studies Program, and International Speakers Series at his home institution of Mississippi College School of Law. His book, Trade Remedies in North America, will be published in 2009-2010 by Kluwer Law International. Bowman's areas of teaching include Contracts, Remedies, and National Security Law.

After conducting a trip to South Korea this summer for law students at the Mississippi College School of Law, Bowman will join the WVU College of Law faculty in as a permanent faculty member for the upcoming academic year.
