Lindell

CHARLESTON -– Norman Lindell, a Human Resources Consultant with the Labor and Employment practice group of Steptoe & Johnson, was recently honored by Goodwill Industries of Kanawha Valley.

Lindell was recognized by the organization for his diligent efforts as board chairman, and he received the 2009 Judge Benjamin Moore Distinguished Director Award for devoted service. Lindell was presented with both awards at the GIKV's annual dinner, which was held to thank clients, staff, and community leaders for their outstanding contributions to the organization.

"In 2004, a friend asked if I would be interested in becoming a member of the board of directors of GlKV," Lindell began. "I immediately agreed because working on behalf of disabled people has been a passion of mine," he said.

During Lindell's term as chairman of the board, GIKV built a new 16,000 square foot facility in which its clients now work, in addition to a new donation center.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Lindell served in the United States Army and then went on to attend The University of Charleston, where he earned a master's degree in human resource management. Lindell served the West Virginia Human Rights Commission as an investigator, compliance director, deputy director, and acting director throughout a 25-year span.

Lindell formerly served on the board of directors for the National Association of Human Rights Workers, and served as vice-president of the West Virginia Chapter of the Association. He is a member of the Charleston Chapter of the Society of Human Resources Management, and serves as its legislative coordinator.

Lindell has been an instructor for the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, the National Association of Human Rights Workers, the West Virginia Human Rights Commission, the West Virginia Department of Education, the Regional Community Policing Institute, and the West Virginia State Police Academy. He is a member of the West Virginia Hate Crimes Task Force, and a past member of the West Virginia Disabilities Planning Council, the Governor's Committee on Criminal Justice and the West Virginia State Advisory Committee to the United States Commission on Civil Rights.
