CLARKSBURG -– For the third year in a row Steptoe & Johnson has been named the recipient of the "Law Firm Award for Outstanding Pro Bono Representation of West Virginians".
The "Kaufman Pro Bono Award" is awarded by the members of the Pro Bono Referral Project, a program coordinated by Legal Aid of West Virginia.
Attorneys and paralegals throughout the firm donated record-setting number of hours to help individuals and organizations that serve communities throughout The Mountain State. Legal Aid of WV, WV Senior Legal Aid, Habitat for Humanity, WV CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children), The Humane Society, Hope, Inc., WV Rails-to-Trails Council, WV 2-1-1 and Honor Flight are some of the many organizations benefiting from the firm's philanthropic efforts.
"Community and civic philanthropy is deeply rooted in the firm's culture," began Sherri S. Whalen, Pro Bono Coordinator for Steptoe & Johnson. "The firm is committed to the communities in which we live, and we see it as our duty to aid individuals in need and the entities that operate to improve those individuals' lives. We are honored to receive this award for the third year in a row, which recognizes our team's ongoing commitment to a program that responds to the imperative needs of society," Whalen said.
