WELCH -– Supreme Court Justice Thomas McHugh will be the keynote speaker at the celebration of Law Day in McDowell County at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 30.
The event will be held in Courtroom A in the main courthouse in Welch.
The program will include a presentation of prizes to school children who participated in poster and essay contests. McHugh is scheduled to speak at 11 a.m. About 200 McDowell County school children are expected to attend.
Law Day was proclaimed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1958 as a day to reflect on the role of law in the founding of our country and to recognize its importance for society. The 2010 Law Day theme is "Law in the 21st Century: Emerging Challenges and Enduring Traditions, Defending Liberty and Pursuing Justice."
Eighth Judicial Circuit Judges Booker T. Stephens and Rudolph J. Murensky II are the hosts of the Fourteenth Annual McDowell County Law Day Celebration.
