WHEELING -- Melissa M. Barr, an associate in the West Virginia office of Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, was selected for inclusion as a "West Virginia Rising Star 2010" in the area of Civil Litigation Defense by Virginia Super Lawyers magazine.
This is the second year Barr was honored. To be eligible, a lawyer must be 40 years of age or younger or have practiced law for 10 years of less. Only 2.5 percent of West Virginia attorneys are honored as "Rising Stars."
Barr concentrates her practice in the areas of insurance litigation, including coverage issues and bad faith, agency/broker liability, personal injury, employment law, commercial law, and toxic torts, with a particular emphasis in insurance defense.
Prior to joining the firm, she served as a law clerk to Judge Charles E. McCarty, Fifth Judicial Circuit; an assistant prosecutor for Jackson County, West Virginia; and State Farm claim litigation counsel.
She graduated summa cum laude from West Virginia University, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, in 1996 with a B.A. in International Relations and German. She received her J.D. from West Virginia University College of Law in 1999.
