MARTINSBURG -– Steptoe & Johnson is pleased to welcome new member A. Neal Barkus to the firm.
Barkus will practice in the Martinsburg office, focusing on advising business leaders on employment issues.
Barkus comes to the firm by way of private practice, where he was a sole practitioner in Martinsburg handling labor and employment issues of all types for business management and executives. Prior to joining Steptoe & Johnson, Barkus served as an associate and partner with Hunton & Williams in Richmond, Va., and Washington, D.C. from 1975 to 2008.
Barkus will concentrate his practice on trade secrets and employee competition issues, collective bargaining, grievance arbitration, and executive retention. Barkus litigates employment disputes in all courts and administrative agencies, and is experienced in arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution methods.
A graduate of the University of Virginia (B.A.) and Washington and Lee University School of Law (J.D.), Barkus is a member of the American Bar Association (Sections on Litigation and Labor & Employment Law), the Society for Human Resource Management, and he was elected a Fellow of the College of Labor & Employment Lawyers in 2009. Barkus serves as the president of Friends Of Music, Inc., Shepherdstown, West Virginia, and he is the past chair of the United Way of District of Columbia, as well as past chief volunteer officer for the United Way's National Capital Area.
