PERSONNEL FILE: Kay Casto & Chaney announce new hires

CHARLESTON -- Kay Casto & Chaney have announced that John D. "Jack" Hoblitzell, III and Ryan P. Simonton have been hired as associates.

John D. "Jack" Hoblitzell, III, a native of Charleston, joined the Charleston office in September. His primary practice areas include Insurance / Litigation and Employment / Labor Law.

Hoblitzell is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, as well as the Supreme Court of Appeals for West Virginia.

In 2000, Hoblitzell received his bachelor's of arts degree in History from Trinity College, where he graduated with General and Departmental Honors and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. In 2003, he received his J.D. from The West Virginia University College of Law. While in law school, participated in the Clinical Law Program, received the Patrick Duffy Koontz Award, and is a member of Order of the Coif as well as the Mountain Honorary.

He is a member of the West Virginia State Bar and the West Virginia Bar Association where he serves on the executive committee of the young lawyer division. Hoblitzell is a member of the Defense Trial Council of West Virginia.

In 2008 and 2010, he was named a "Rising Star" by West Virginia Super Lawyers. Hoblitzell is an Elder at The First Presbyterian Church Charleston and is currently an active member of its Session. He is also a Life Member of Trout Unlimited.

Ryan P. Simonton, a native of Vienna, joined the Morgantown office this fall. His practice areas include, Commercial Law and Insurance / Litigation Law.

Simonton is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Appeals for West Virginia. Prior to joining Kay Casto, he served as a Law Clerk to Circuit Judge Lawrance S. Miller, Jr., of Preston County, West Virginia.

In 2006, Simonton graduated from West Virginia University with a bachelor's of arts degree. He was a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society and was a University Honors Scholar. In 2009, Simonton received his J.D. from West Virginia University's College of Law. While in law school, he was an associate editor and research editor of the West Virginia Law Review, participated in the Clinical Law Program, and was inducted into the Order of the Coif.
