MORGANTOWN -– Susan S. Brewer, CEO of Steptoe & Johnson, announced that effective Jan. 1, five of the firm's attorneys have been promoted to membership.
* Erin F. Anderson concentrates her practice in the areas of energy and natural resources law and real estate transactions. A graduate of West Virginia University (B.S.), and the West Virginia University College of Law, Anderson assists clients with the performance and preparation of mineral title opinions, as well as issues related to surface use or surface damages claims arising from coal, oil and gas operations.
Anderson routinely handles matters involving mineral transactions and acquisitions, including the coordination and performance of due diligence and title defect curative work. Anderson is a member of the Greater Appalachian Basin Association of Lease and Title Analysts, National Association of Lease and Title Analysis, Energy & Mineral Law Foundation, and Kanawha County Bar Association.
Anderson practices in the firm's Charleston office.
* Michelle Lee Dougherty focuses her practice in the areas of civil litigation, and first party and third party insurance defense in the firm's Wheeling office. A graduate of West Liberty State College (B.S.), and Valparaiso University (J.D.), Dougherty joined Steptoe & Johnson in 2004. She is an active member of the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia and Defense Research Institute, as well as a variety of industry and civic organizations.
Dougherty is very active in her community. She is a Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Wheeling, serves on the Board of Directors for the United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley, and is currently the Treasurer of the Ohio County Bar Association.
* James W. "Mac" Heslep focuses his practice in the defense of workplace injuries and illnesses and allegations of workplace safety violations. He has represented employers in more than 1,200 protests before the West Virginia Workers' Compensation Office of Judges. He also has extensive experience in appellate practice of workers' compensation matters before both the West Virginia Workers' Compensation Board of Review and the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals.
Heslep is a regular presenter at regional and national seminars on workers' compensation issues and serves as an adjunct faculty member to the Business Department of Fairmont State University, where he teaches Employment Law. A graduate of William and Mary (B.S.) and the West Virginia University College of Law, Heslep is an alumnus of Leadership Harrison, and received "Generation Next" honors by The State Journal.
* Marsha K. Hudkins concentrates her practice in energy and mineral law, and commercial and real estate transactions. A graduate of Fairmont State College (B.S.), West Virginia University (M.P.A.), and the WVU College of Law, Hudkins was honored with the Pro Bono Award for Outstanding Public Service by The Center for Law & Public Service. She is a member of the Energy and Mineral Law Foundation, the National Association of Lease and Title Analysts (NALTA) and the Greater Appalachian Basin Association of Lease and Title Analysts (GABALTA). In addition, Hudkins is a member of the Board of Directors for The Connecting Link, Inc. In 2010, she served on the Board of Directors of NALTA and led the Vendor Fair Committee. She was elected President of GABALTA for 2011.
* Davin L. Seamon concentrates his practice in real estate transactions, mineral law, title insurance, commercial transactions, and business formation and governance. A graduate of West Virginia University (B.S.), and The George Washington University Law School (J.D.), Seamon serves as a member of the Young Lawyers Section for the West Virginia State Bar and Maryland State Bar.
He also assists a number of sections comprising the American Bar Association. Seamon is a past member of the National Italian American Foundation Youth Advisory Board and the Shinnston-Lincoln Scholarship Foundation. He is Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Clarksburg-Harrison Cultural Foundation, and is a member of the Committee for Leadership Harrison, a division of the Harrison County Chamber of Commerce.
Aside from law, Seamon is a professional pianist and keyboardist. He has played on numerous studio recordings and currently performs with A Rare Blend, a jazz quartet based in Harrison County, as well as The New Relics, a country/rock band based in Monongalia County.
